Edi Car Key Cleveland is a mobile automotive locksmith working out of 2703 Carroll Ave, Cleveland, Ohio. This page explains what we learn about you, why we need it, and what happens to it afterwards. It covers two separate things: this website, and the visit a technician makes to your vehicle. The two collect different information, so they are described separately below.
What this website collects
The quote form asks for your name, email address, phone number, the location of the vehicle, and its year, make and model. Nothing else is requested and nothing is inferred from what you enter, beyond working out whether the job is a plain key cut, a programming job, or fob work.
The form is worth explaining because it does not behave like most contact forms. There is no database behind it. When you press the button, your entries are assembled into a draft message and handed to whatever email application your device already uses. Nothing has left your device at that point. You send it yourself, from your own email account, and it arrives with us as an ordinary email. If we ever move the form onto a hosted service, this page will say so before the change goes live.
Calling us instead leaves whatever your carrier passes along, which is your phone number, together with the notes our dispatcher writes down while talking to you.
What the technician records at your vehicle
Three things get written into the job record: the vehicle identification number, your driver’s license number, and the name shown on your ownership document. That is the whole list. The licence is read, not photographed, and no image of it exists on anyone’s phone after the visit. If you would rather watch the details being written down, say so and the technician will work in front of you.
Why we check identification at all
A key that starts a car is the car. An automotive locksmith who cuts one without establishing who is asking has handed a stranger a vehicle. So before anything is cut or programmed, the technician needs to see a driver’s license together with a registration, title or insurance card in a matching name. This applies to every job without exception, including repeat customers and including ignition work. It is mentioned when you book so the paperwork is ready when the van arrives.
What the information is used for
Quoting the job. Finding the vehicle. Doing the work. Taking payment. Keeping a record complete enough to answer a warranty question, or to cut a spare months later without starting over. That is the full set of purposes. We do not build customer profiles, we do not combine what you tell us with data bought from anyone else, and we do not send marketing to people who have not asked for it.
Who else sees it
Our technicians, who cannot do the job otherwise. Our card payment processor, which is what makes it possible to take payment at the kerbside rather than sending an invoice. And law enforcement, where there is a lawful request concerning a specific vehicle. Your information is not sold, rented, traded, or passed to anyone for advertising purposes. There is no fourth category.
Payments
Card details are entered into the payment processor’s own terminal and travel to the processor directly. We never see or store a full card number. What reaches our records is the amount, the date, and the last few digits, which is what lets us match a payment to a job if a question comes up later.
Cookies and tracking
These pages set no cookies. There is no analytics package, no advertising pixel, no session recording, and nothing written to your browser’s storage. We cannot tell which pages you visited or how long you stayed.
One request does go to a server that is not ours. Each page loads a typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the IP address your browser connects from, as it would for any site using that service. Nothing identifying you is attached to that request. If you block it, or if the font simply fails to load, every page here stays perfectly readable in the font your device already has.
How long records are kept
Completed jobs are held for about seven years, which is the span that warranty questions, accounting and tax obligations realistically cover. Enquiries that never turned into work are discarded once it is clear the job is not going ahead. If you want your record deleted sooner, ask, and it will be, unless a legal obligation requires us to keep it.
How it is protected
Access is restricted to the people who need it to do their work, and reasonable safeguards are applied to what we hold. We are not going to claim that this is flawless, because no arrangement is.
If something goes wrong
Should your personal information be caught up in a security breach, you will hear from us. Ohio’s breach notification law, section 1349.19 of the Revised Code, sets an outer limit of forty five days for that, and depending on the number of people affected, the Ohio Attorney General and the consumer reporting agencies would be notified as well. Ohio gives the Attorney General sole authority to enforce this.
Your choices, and what Ohio law actually gives you
It is worth being straightforward about this rather than implying more than exists. Ohio has not enacted a comprehensive consumer privacy law. Residents of California, Virginia, Colorado and around twenty other states hold statutory rights to access, correct and delete data held by private businesses. In Ohio you do not, and any local business claiming to grant you rights under an Ohio privacy statute is describing a law that has not been passed.
We honour those requests regardless, as a matter of practice. Ask us and we will tell you whether we hold anything about you and send you a copy, correct anything that is wrong, or delete what we are not legally obliged to keep. We aim to answer within forty five days, and we may need enough detail first to be confident the request is coming from you and not from someone else.
The rights that tend to matter most elsewhere do not arise here, because we do not do the things they exist to control. We run no targeted advertising, we sell no personal data, and we make no automated decisions about anyone.
Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act does cover unfair and deceptive business practices, including a business that breaks the promises made on a page like this one. Complaints go to the Ohio Attorney General’s office.
If you live in another state
Where your own state grants you enforceable privacy rights, we will honour a valid request made under that law in full, on the same terms we would apply to a request from an Ohio resident.
Children
This is a service for people who own vehicles, and nothing on this site is aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen.
Changes to this page
If how we work changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Anything material will be described here rather than quietly amended.
